Students learn about process synchronization and the challenges of concurrent execution, including race conditions, the Critical-Section Problem, Peterson’s Solution, Semaphores, Classic Synchronization Problems, and Monitors. The course further focuses on CPU Scheduling, covering basic scheduling concepts, scheduling criteria, and major scheduling algorithms such as FCFS, SJF, SRTF, Priority Scheduling, Round Robin, Multilevel Queue Scheduling, and Multilevel Feedback Queue Scheduling. Overall, the course enables students to understand how Operating Systems manage processes, resources, and CPU execution efficiently and apply various scheduling and synchronization techniques to solve practical problems.
